C. N. Bazin French Violin Bow, c. 1890
Charles Nicolas Bazin studied bow making with his father Francois and went on to establish one of the largest and most respected bow making workshops of his day, employing a large number of fine Mirecourt bow makers.
Bows from this workshop were made for many famous violin houses, including the German firm “Gebruder Wolff” and this bow accordingly bears the stamp “WOLFF”.
The bow comprises a dark, round, pernambuco stick with silver mounted ebony frog which is decorated with pearl eyes; the three piece adjuster of silver / ebony / silver. It produces a rich sound with a broad colour palette to explore and offers accurate articulation, perfect balance and stability on the strings with a comfortable, smooth ‘feel’.
